More Together Than Alone
Discovering the Power and Spirit of Community with Mark Nepo
Friday, November 16 7:00pm - 9:00pm and Saturday, November 17 9:00am - 4:30 pm
“The healthy social life is found when in the mirror of each human soul the whole community finds its reflection.” ~ Rudolph Steiner
All spiritual traditions teach that we are all one, part of an indivisible, hidden wholeness. Sadly, we are in a time when this teaching is being ignored and we need to find our way back to us to be healthy and whole. This retreat is an invitation to find the pathways that return us to connection.
Our time together will be based on Mark Nepo’s book More Together Than Alone: Discovering the Power and Spirit of Community in Our Lives and in the World. In 12 years of researching for this book, Mark repeatedly found confirmation that we can respond to great suffering in one of two ways: by becoming more compassionate or by becoming more fearful. The choice, as he says, “Time and time again, we can see that the moral conscience of a society is measured by how well it threads its justice with its compassion.”
He will lead us in processing questions such as…
How can we live fully alone and together?
How do we inhabit what we have in common as well as what makes us unique?
How do we hold each other as we tumble along in the story of our lives?
In what ways can we deepen our daily practice of service and compassion?
We’ll look at how community works, and the interior work we can do to build it through relationship with self, others, and source.
Retreat registration is $120 when received by October 19; $140 thereafter and includes program, materials, and lunch.
A limited number of guest rooms are available at Transformations for an additional $75 for a single room, on a first-come, first-served basis.
We can extend a discounted rate for a nearby hotel if you wish to stay in Kalamazoo. See registration form for details.
Please register by November 2.
